Seeing Through Babel
November 28, 2023–April 21, 2024
Temporary Exhibitions Gallery
Experience Kevork Mourad’s extraordinary installation as he reimagines the iconic story of the Tower of Babel — an ancient tale that tells the story of the city and tower of Babel and explains the origins of the world’s linguistic diversity and the consequences of the dispersion of languages.
Seeing Through Babel explores the profound influence of language diversity in shaping our shared humanity, inviting us to reflect on the beauty of our differences and their contribution to our collective tapestry. Mourad’s installation encourages each individual to find a piece of themselves within this celebration of differences.
Using delicate layers of hand-printed textiles adorned with calligraphy and imagery inspired by ancient stone artifacts from various cultures worldwide, Mourad meticulously crafted this installation to evoke the timeless form of the Tower of Babel.
The Museum wishes to thank Zahoor and Taslim Samji for their support in the acquisition of Kevork Mourad: Seeing Through Babel.
